Animal Health Intern

Merck, Elkhorn, NE

The Future Talent Program features internships that last up to 12 weeks and will include one or more projects.  These opportunities can provide you with great development and a chance to see if we are the right company for your long-term goals. Interns will work under the direction of a supervisor and assist a team of scientists in their work toward the development of vaccines and other biologicals for use in animals. Opportunities are available for candidates enrolled in undergraduate degree programs.  Candidates must have finished their sophomore year of a four-year bachelor program in a life science discipline by June of 2020.   Candidates should be able to demonstrate their achievements in scientific coursework through academic transcripts.

Student Research Project

Dr. Bryon Chaves, a faculty member in the Food Science & Technology Department, has a project for a student to complete through the IANR ARD Undergraduate Research Program (see above). He is seeking a student with at least one more full year left, so someone who plans to graduate in spring or summer 2021.

Water for Sustainable Food Systems

New Mexico State University

The successful candidate will develop high-impact research and extension programs, recognized nationally and internationally, in the area of water optimization in the food production supply chain, post-harvest through retail. Topics encompassed in this area include food engineering and food processing, life-cycle assessment, distributive processing, food system resilience, process simulation, water use efficiency, waste reduction, water reconditioning and reuse, and sustainability.

Bioprocessing Laboratory Specialist

University of Illinois

Supervise and perform the day-to-day research, operations, and safety oversight of the IBRL-PPP and
laboratory. Schedule and prepare for research trials by students, faculty, and outside researchers. Serve as primary research specialist for operating and maintaining extrusion research equipment in facility.
Ensure equipment is available and ready for use. Provide expertise to faculty, students, and outside users performing research to ensure safe and successful use of facility equipment, including coordinating without outside contractors as necessary.

Principal Scientist

Provide research, applications and technical support to grow and enhance MGPI’s portfolio of specialty starches and proteins; Conducts bench-top scientific research on carbohydrates (starch, dietary fiber, hydrocolloids), proteins, and lipids; Provides expertise in operational improvements related to the production of those ingredients;  Works directly with customers to deliver solutions that uniquely add value to their consumer packaged goods, and trains company personnel, as well as ingredient brokers and distributors, through presentations, seminars and one-on-one collaborative activities.

Production Supervisor- Manufacturing Transformation

Manufacturing Transformation Production Supervisor will spend two rotations working with the manufacturing transformation team at selected bakeries. During transformation responsibilities include providing guidance to resolve particular operations issues or implement projects, the consistent collaboration with the Manufacturing Transformation team during the preparation, diagnostic, planning, and implementation stages while incorporating safety and quality/sanitation standards in a continuous improvement environment.
