Animal Health Intern

Merck, Elkhorn, NE

The Future Talent Program features internships that last up to 12 weeks and will include one or more projects.  These opportunities can provide you with great development and a chance to see if we are the right company for your long-term goals. Interns will work under the direction of a supervisor and assist a team of scientists in their work toward the development of vaccines and other biologicals for use in animals. Opportunities are available for candidates enrolled in undergraduate degree programs.  Candidates must have finished their sophomore year of a four-year bachelor program in a life science discipline by June of 2020.   Candidates should be able to demonstrate their achievements in scientific coursework through academic transcripts.

Student Research Project

Dr. Bryon Chaves, a faculty member in the Food Science & Technology Department, has a project for a student to complete through the IANR ARD Undergraduate Research Program (see above). He is seeking a student with at least one more full year left, so someone who plans to graduate in spring or summer 2021.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent, innovative, and competitively funded research program in food systems innovation as applied to improve food safety and sustainability. We seek outstanding scientists engaged in emerging areas of food research including but not limited to microbial and chemical food safety, application of omics to improve food safety, emergence of antimicrobial resistance in food system, development of innovative technologies to detect and control foodborne pathogens, mitigation of food loss and food-waste, utilization of food processing waste, food biotechnology, and fermentation.

Bioprocessing Laboratory Specialist

University of Illinois

Supervise and perform the day-to-day research, operations, and safety oversight of the IBRL-PPP and
laboratory. Schedule and prepare for research trials by students, faculty, and outside researchers. Serve as primary research specialist for operating and maintaining extrusion research equipment in facility.
Ensure equipment is available and ready for use. Provide expertise to faculty, students, and outside users performing research to ensure safe and successful use of facility equipment, including coordinating without outside contractors as necessary.

QA Analyst I
