Food Microbiology Intern

Corbian, Lenexa, KS

Corbion is looking for an Intern who is currently or recently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in the ingredient solutions industry to conduct exploratory, literature-based research on the raw poultry industry. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to searching, analyzing, and summarizing scientific literature, and apply them to create a comprehensive, chaptered document on raw poultry from an industry and scientific perspective. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that a student/entry level team member can play in a corporate setting, and be better prepared to work in the arena of ingredient solutions. This position will be based off-site, with biweekly meetings onsite or via teleconference with the Intern's supervisor.

Lab Animal Care Assistant 

Gnotobiotic Mouse Facility

Responsibilities for this position include preparing sterile food, water and bedding for the mice, entering the sterile supplies into isolators in an aseptic manner, performing periodic microbiological quality-control checks to ensure sterile isolator environments and assisting lab personnel with various mouse-related tasks.. Rate of pay is $9.00/hour. Applicants must be able to commit to working a minimum of 10 hrs/week Mon – Fri; weekend hours may be possible. No prior experience required; training will be provided. This position is available for Fall 2020 and possibly Spring 2021.

Assistant Professor in Bakery Science

Kansas State University

The successful candidate will develop an innovative teaching program, encompassing both existing and new undergraduate and graduate courses (including online offerings) covering subject matter related to the science of baking. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain extramural support for and direct an undergraduate and graduate research program focused on relevant problems in the baking industry. Potential areas of research include, but are not limited to, bakery processes, ingredient functionality, product safety, and quality. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as a critical faculty member of the Bakery Science Program and actively recruit new students. The candidate will advise undergraduate students and participate in undergraduate and graduate student club activities, as well as contribute to departmental, college and university committees, and appropriate professional/industry associations.

Assistant Professor and State Extension Specialist in Food Processing

University of Missouri

The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and conducting food processing and safety extension activities for the state that would enhance the value of Missouri agricultural commodities. Bioprocessing Laboratory Specialist

Supervise and perform the day-to-day research, operations, and safety oversight of the IBRL-PPP and laboratory. Schedule and prepare for research trials by students, faculty, and outside researchers. Serve as primary research specialist for operating and maintaining extrusion research equipment in facility.
Ensure equipment is available and ready for use. Provide expertise to faculty, students, and outside users performing research to ensure safe and successful use of facility equipment, including coordinating without outside contractors as necessary.

Director of Experiment Station and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education

The Pennsylvania State University seeks an experienced, forward-looking professional to provide strategic leadership for policy, program, administrative, and external relations as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education for the College of Agricultural Sciences. The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education also serves as Director of the Pennsylvania Agricultural Experiment Station. The position requires an individual who brings energy, creativity, leadership, and vision to the advancement of both applied and basic research, procurement of grants, and administration of graduate programs. In addition, the position interfaces with, reports to, and ensures compliance with the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and manages staff members to complete these duties.

Ph.D. Research Assistantship - Food Virology

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Microbial Food Safety

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Pratik Banerjee’s laboratory in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks a qualified applicant to fill a full-time, 12-month Postdoctoral Research Associate’s position. This position will work closely on projects to study the complex microbial ecosystem of food commodities and food production environment and its role in the transmission of pathogens causing elevated food safety and human health risks. The position will also be heavily involved in the development and dissemination of educational content on food safety regulations such as FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). This relates to the ongoing Food Safety Outreach Program within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). Postdoctoral Research Associate - Food Virology

A Postdoctoral Research Scholar is sought to join Dr. Naim Montazeri’s Food and Environmental Virology Research Group within the University of Florida - Department of Food Science and Nutrition to address pressing issues concerning the impact of COVID-19 on the food sector. This is a full-time research position for one year with potential extension depending on the availability of funding. The anticipated start date is Jan 4, 2021 (earlier start dates are negotiable). The selected candidate will participate in a collaborative project called the FoodCoVNET, funded as a rapid response to the challenges the food sector has been encountered over the COVID-19 pandemic. The selected scholar will investigate the persistence and transfer of coronavirus (CoV) surrogates and SARS-CoV-2 on food and contact surfaces and implement effective virus mitigation strategies. The knowledge gleaned from experimental research will be translated into various educational resources and serve as a foundation of stakeholder engagement. Operate scale system, run reports, as well as weighing inbound and outbound loads in a timely manner.
