Nutrigenomics Assistant/Associate Professor Positions

The positions are a key piece of the Functional Genomics Initiative of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. Summary: This individual will develop FT-IR techniques and chemometric analytical approaches for identification and detection of foodborne pathogens. Improved FT-IR detection techniques will be developed by determining how spectroscopic differentiation relates to cell surface characteristics and how these structures vary with conditions and treatments. A comparison of the steps and time requirements for FT-IR and other bacterial detection methods will be done. The study will include biochemical analyses of the cell surface lipopolysaccharides, capsular antigens, and proteins, as well as isolation, enrichment, and plate count methods for bacteria.
Requirements: Must have earned a Ph.D. in food science, microbiology, analytical chemistry, or related field. Candidates must have a commitment to advancing the fields of foodborne pathogen detection and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) method development. Applicants must demonstrate an interest to work on collaborative and multidisciplinary projects, a strong publication record, and an aptitude for grant writing.
