Food Allergy Assistant Professor
The Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track Food Allergy Specialist faculty position. The successful candidate will be one of three faculty involved in the world-renowned Food Allergy Research & Resource Program (FARRP), a food industry-funded consortium with more than 50 member companies.
The candidate will be expected to develop and lead a food allergy research team and conduct fundamental and applied research on food allergens, the detection of residues of allergenic foods, the effects of processing on food allergens, and the assessment of the potential allergenicity of genetically engineered foods or other areas relevant to food allergies and that would complement existing research efforts of other faculty.
The candidate will also contribute to existing Extension efforts to train and assist the food industry on issues relating to allergenic foods with a focus on distance education approaches to training. The position will also have a teaching component through regular and distance learning approaches.
The appointment split will be 60% research, 30% Extension, and 10% teaching.
Additional opportunities are available through FARRP’s existing worldwide network of clinical, biochemical, and applied research and outreach collaborators. Collaborations with a group of scientists in the Department who share interests in the microbial, biological, physiological and immunological features of the gastrointestinal tract are also encouraged. The Department is housed in a modern, well-equipped facility.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in food science, immunology, biochemistry or a related field and laboratory experience related to food allergens, the detection of allergens/proteins, and/or the assessment of allergenic activity of foods or food components; experience in interacting with the food industry is preferred but not required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required.
